I spent every summer of my childhood in a small cabin on the North Fork of The Salmon River. The mountains, the people, the FISHING - it was paradise. My family moved from the river in 1978 and I haven't been back until yesterday. I was so sad. My Eden was a forgotten, lonely place. There were no fish in the river that we could find at all, this coming from a person who caught her first steelhead at age 7 and could out fish all the boys on that river. Our cabin was gone, the store has burned down and hasn't been rebuilt, the bustling little community that I remember was a virtual ghost town, save the handful of firefighters we saw. It's heartbreaking, I guess everything changes, but The Forks is just a shell of it's former self. I guess the fish bailed too. How sad is that?

It's true that we are being very careless with salmon and this ban is helping the fish to live on. It's so nice to see that other people care about the well being of the fish. Here is a good news story about it from my company, TitanTv. http://video.titantv.com/content/0001011B/video.aspx

Thanks Ted for the insight into the plight of salmon. While living in Oregon I saw first hand the immense salmon runs up into the Columbia River. Yet, as I traveled along the mighty river to the Snake river on the Oregon/Idaho border I was shocked at how many locks we had to go through in order to get to the Snake. Despite the fish bridges I can only imagine how difficult it must be for the salmon to get to where they instinctively need to go to spawn. Now, living in California I see where the salmon of the Pacific Northwest are headed. How sad a day it will be when salmon runs no longer exists outside the lower 48 states.

I was looking for salmon recipes and stumbled onto your site. I was kind of shocked at how few salmon came up river in 2005. It saddens me to see how careless we can be regarding our environment. Thank you for your passion. Keep it up.
