SF Skyline shown with permission by photographer Lane Hartwell

Kim Cogan Ownz My Eyes

Caught the Kim Cogan show at SF’s White Walls Gallery. He’s that rare cross over that appeals to grimey low-brow street artists as much as he would to Pac Heights blue bloods. The show runs until June 2nd.

What society maven or gutter punk wouldn’t want his oil paintings on their walls? That San Francisco Sunset is listed for $18,000. The first two are ~$8,000. I’ll add them to my tedazon wish list.

If you hit White Walls, walk next door to the Shooting Gallery and check out Shawn Barbers‘ stuff. It might work for ya. Here’s one of ‘em.

Funny note, Robin Williams was there with a shirt with small plain font that said ‘photography not permitted.’ That didn’t stop people from asking to take their picture with him. I found a blocked shot of him talking to on of the Shawn Barber painting subjects.

i have always loved kim’s work. i remember a friend introduced about 4 years back because i would not shut up about the first painting of his that was selling at canvas. he’s also one of the reasons i love to grab a drink at john collins - i can visit a few of my favorite paintings of his there. oh how i wish i had the $$ to buy those back when he wasn’t a big shot. now i definitely don’t have the dough.
