Methuselah Tree

metree.jpg Greg is going to summit the 14,252′ White Mountain this summer and said he was going to go looking for the Methuselah Tree.

I had never heard of the Methuselah Tree and was amazed to learn the oldest living organism on the planet is right here in California.

The Methuselah Tree is a bristlecone pine that has lived for over 4,838 years old in the White Mountains, east of what we now call Bishop, CA. It’s precise location is a guarded secret so as to not risk premature harm from vandalism. Somehow or other Greg has a lead on where it is and hoping to find it. How you can tell the spry and sprite 4,000 year old tree from a 4,838 year old tree may be tricky. I wish them great luck. I can only imagine what gazing upon something that has lived for 3,000 years before the Christian era could inspire one to think.

Nova did an episode on it, and being 2002, they did some 360 VR’s of similar looking trees and locales.
