My Blog’s Own Community

Picture 2.png About a month ago I added the original features of MyBlogLog to my site which not only acted as a backup web stats service it also keeps tracks of the most popular outbound links and even displays this info to visitors as they mouseover a link. You can try it now. Mouseover links and the popular ones will display a ranking. Since MyBlogLog stores all this data in a central service they’ve been able to generate interesting data, such as the most popular outboound links in a geographic area. Here, for example are the 10 most popular outbound links in the system for San Francisco, CA.

Even better, taking advantage of their central data set they’ve created community features so I can see which MyBlogLog members have visited my website recently. In the backend we can message each other, create friend and admirer connections and see the neighbors of those we read. In a way it’s like the behind-the-scene undergound network at Disney World. The outward facing blogs would be the rides and walkways the private passageways and workrooms would be MyBlogLog. To see some of this internal plumbing, check out my public profile.

Understanding Dogster’s success of brining together like-minded people, I have tought for some time now overarching community tools of like-minded bloggers would be make a lot of sense. After all that is exactly what object-centric sociality is all about and LiveJournal is a perfect example of bloggers self-organizing.

If you stop and think about what can be done with a single repository or writer and reader data I’m sure you’ll start to see the awesome potential such a service can have. Personally I’d like to see a rating or thumbs-up system, so people who read my blog can leave a positive affirmation without having to write a witty comment or send me an email. They could just say ‘right on’. This is actually an idea I was schemeing with Jackson West and Termie. I was going to call it ‘well said’ but starting a second big webproject sounded simply exhausting once I got the framework ready.

So with no further ado here are the MyBlogLoggers I’ve connected with that were most recently reading my blog:

The service is free and though, yet another social networking site, if you like writing or reading blogs, I think it’s definitely here to stay. If you join up make sure to add me as a contact.

    Ted –
Glad to have you as one of the pioneering MyBlogLog community sites. Hopefully a little of your Dogster magic will rub off on our community and help it grow. See ya the next time I’m in SF.
