Meet Kent Bye of the Echo Chamber Project

Independent filmmaker, started video recording every hour of NBC, CBS, & ABC news as the current war in Iraq started. Then he went and interviewed dozens of news journailist covering the war. He realized that the reason there is so little dissent on TV news is that from all the footage and knowledge it has to be boiled down to it’s most driving events. Journalists carry a lot of informaiton but only a tiny share actually gets distributed. So he has been taking all the video that ends up on the cutting floor of the hundreds of hours of interviews he did and extend a drupal website to let anyone tag, rate, make custom playlists. It must be a huge effort to cut it out it thousands of news bites. Once it’s goes live people will be able to swarm the clips, and using the power of collective intelligence (as Stowe Boyd calls it) determine a whole array of documentaries which Kent will then compile into DVDs.
