Meet The Vloggers: 1

I’m at Vloggercon right now, a sold-out gathering of internet-oriented video makers, consuerms, tool makers, players, jokerz, visionaries, world-changers. Within minutes I was inspired by just the first 5 new people I met. The opening mantras have been fresh, sincere and farsighted. The opening presentations have been deeply inspiring. I’ll try and pass along as much as I can.

Here are some notes from the opening speakers. Try and glean the nuggets as my memory harldy allows me direct transcription.

In this room you have the power to make this happen. We need to get the creators willing to take the risk in unproven media models. You do whatever you want. We’re here to support you. We hope this conference to be a catalyst. We hope this conference is the inspiration for you.

Considering the crowd looks identical to the speakers I expect the feeling is mutual.

Peter Van Djick:

To make Vlogging as media to work we need technology and a certain culture. The cameras and the internet and video handhelds are going to happen whether we use them or not. Technology like downloading TV shows and newscasts will happen anyway. We don’t have to be here today for that to happen.

Buyt the vision of the stuff that we imagine won’t happen just because the tehcnology is available. We have to build and support this culture. Just as in the beginning of the itnernet a lof of good well meaning selfless decisions had to be made in order for the internet to become the populist everything that it is. A good strong culture of support, recognition, sharing will be needed amongst all those providing media in non-tradition distribution formats.
